Reducing CO2 Emissions in Maritime Transport (cepInput)
cepInput
Given the global nature of both the climate and maritime transport, CO2reduction measures should be taken worldwide where possible. However, due to the relatively slow progress within the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), the EU Commission sees the need for action at European level. The means of choice should be the inclusion of maritime transport in an EU-wide emissions trading system. In contrast to regulatory requirements, subsidies and CO2 levies, emissions trading would certainly achieve the politically set reduction volume. Moreover, emissions trading is cost-effective. A reduction can be achieved at the lowest possible cost.
