The EU Commission wants to improve the qualifications of professional drivers of lorries and buses and amend the corresponding Directive. In cep’s view, a more precise definition of the vehicles whose drivers are exempt from the Professional Drivers Qualification Directive, will help to create a level playing field.

Status

The proposal of the EU Commission also provides for the mandatory issue of a separate proof of qualification for professional drivers from other Member States. Mutual recognition of these in the EU ensures that drivers can complete qualification courses in the country where they are working. The requirement for mutual recognition of driver attestations for drivers from third-countries, without the Union code, also solves the problem of a lack of mutual recognition of periodic training without causing additional red tape.
