The obligation to provide drivers with suitable accommodation, in conjunction with the right to return home, may also prevent the many months spent by drivers in a “nomadic existence” moving between lay-bys. However, the ability to spend rest periods in private accommodation of the driver’s choosing also gives rise to the possibility of misuse by employers.
