Accessibility (Directive)

By way of a Directive, the requirements under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities will be implemented and the internal market strengthened. This is necessary because some Member States have already adopted diverging national regulations thereby restricting the free movement of goods and services.

cepPolicyBrief

Status

The proposed measures on accessibility result in an increase in the cost of goods and services. Particularly problematic are the duties of information and demonstration because the burden which they place on manufacturers may lead to significant additional costs. Particularly affected are manufacturers, importers and distributors of information and communication technology products as well as service providers in the banking, audio-visual media and passenger transport sectors.
