Pillar of Social Rights (Communication)

The EU Commission proposes the introduction of a "Pillar of Social Rights" which is to contain principles for the approximation of the social policies of the Member States. In cep's view, the approximation of social standards is inadvisable because the capacity of the national social systems is too varied.

In cep's view, the principle of guaranteeing the portability of social and training entitlements may have a positive impact on employment. Other proposals, such as that wage levels should be dependent on productivity and at the same time guarantee a decent standard of living, indicate the intrinsic inconsistency of the principles.
