EU Aviation Strategy (Communication)

The EU Commission wants to strengthen the European aviation sector in international competition. It therefore proposes relaxing the rules on the ownership and control of air carriers in future aviation agreements, realising the Single European Sky and increasing the efficiency of EU airports.

cepPolicyBrief

Status

Instead of simply restating non-binding ideas on external aviation policy, the EU Commission should finally make concrete legislative proposals. In addition, the competitive disadvantages for European airlines caused by the EU and the Member States should be reassessed. The creation of a Single European Sky reduces costs for airlines and thereby the price of flights. Relaxing the rules on the ownership and control of airlines increases Europe's attractiveness as a business location.
