Early Childhood Education and Care (Communication)

The Commission deems early childhood education and care (ECEC) an essential foundation for successful lifelong learning, social integration and personal development. Children with a solid ECEC foundation, later have much better options on the labour market for employability.

Status

Undoubtedly, returns on investment in ECEC are higher than any other education investments. However, the decisions on the establishment of ECEC facilities and their funding must be taken by the Member States themselves. Moreover, the financial support must be limited to those Member States whose economic efficiency does not allow for any solid ECEC for the foreseeable future.
