An EU certification scheme for aviation security screening equipment – e.g. metal detectors or body scanners – intends to overcome fragmentation of the internal market. This will be based on EU type-approval recognised in all Member States.

cepPolicyBrief

Status

In cep's view, EU type-approval for aviation security screening equipment issued by one Member State, which is recognised in all the other Member States, strengthens both the internal market and competition. At present, equipment for detecting prohibited articles in civil aviation has to be certified separately by each Member State before it can be put on the market in those Member States.
