As pharmaceutical residues can contribute to an accelerated development of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and have an effect on the endocrine system, their reduction is urgently needed. The use of antibiotics in animal husbandry must also be further restricted in order to reduce pharmaceutical residues in the environment. In principle, solutions should primarily address the causes - the strategic approach lacks this emphasis.
